Buxtehude is known as the town where the hedgehog challenged the hare to a race. In 1840 the fairy tale "The race between the rabbit and the hedgehog on the small heath near Buxtehude" by Wilhelm Schröder was published in the "Hannover Newspaper". 3 years later the fairy tale became part of the Children's fairy tale collection of the Brothers Grimm.
